Today our Social Dance teacher said that more engineers take Social Dance than is proportional to the campus percentage of engineers. I have a theory about that. Engineers are smart enough to realize that they're not the most attractive of guys, usually. There are always exceptions to the rule, but most engineers are not extremely good looking, or athletic, and aren't the guys that you're immediately attracted to at first meeting. This means that they need to have other qualities, other redeeming talents, that make them stand out in a girl's mind. Dancing is one of these possible talents. Cooking is a pretty good one, and musicianship also works, but perhaps not as well. So the really smart engineers, the ones who have a clear self-image, know that learning how to dance makes them all the more attractive to girls. (For the record, I consider myself a pretty good dancer...ladies.)
I'm moving into the 9th week of the quarter, which means it's crunch time. I've realized that since about the 4th week of the quarter, I've had one paper due at the end of every week. And now that everything's coming to a close, these are some pretty non-trivial papers. For example, last week I had to draft a 12-page research paper, this week I have to research and write a 3,000-word term paper, and next week I have to write the final draft of the 12-page research paper. Oh, Stanford. I can find some things to spice it up with though. This Saturday is Frosh Formal, with the theme "Ocean's Thirteen" (clever.) I expect to go with my all-black ensemble. Who doesn't look good in black?
The frogs are out at night, since it's getting warmer. You can hear a chorus of croaking from the balcony.
